How Do You Keep a Synthetic Wig from Tangling?

Mid-length and longer wigs are more prone to tangling than their shorter counterparts, especially if they’re made with synthetic fibers. The scalp naturally produces oils that help keep biological hair smooth and moisturized. While synthetic wigs don’t have access to these oils, a little extra care goes a long way in keeping them soft and tangle-free. We have some simple, helpful tips to keep your synthetic wig looking its best!

Ways to Detangle Your Synthetic Wig

Comb your wig. Always use a wide tooth comb to detangle and style your wig. Avoid using brushes because they may put tension on the fibers and make your wig look frizzy.  

Use detangling spray. Lightly spray Beautimark’s Smooth Detangler to help your comb glide through the hair and reduce any tension from the knots. Brush the wig throughout the day. Be sure to comb out your wig throughout the day to help prevent the hair from tangling. Focus on the nape of your wig as this area is more prone to tangle from the hair fibers rubbing against your shoulders and clothing.

Wash your wig. It’s important to keep your wig fresh just like you would your biological hair. Oils from your skin and buildup of styling products can cause matting and tangling. How to Prevent the Synthetic Hair from Tangling 

Wear the right size.  Ensure your wig is the correct size and fits securely in place. An ill-fitting wig can slip back and tangle at the nape of the wig. 

Limit the products. Try to avoid using too much product on your wig and over-conditioning the hair. This can make your wig more prone to knotting up and tangling. 

Experiment with different styles. Wearing your wig in different styles and positions helps prevent the hair from staying in the same area to prevent friction frizz. Wear the hair in a low bun, ponytail, or clip to reduce tangling.

Choose high-quality wigs. Wigs with good construction and designed with premium synthetic fibers won’t knot and tangle as fast as lower-quality wigs.
